Following the neighborhood inhabitants’ will, the Monument to the Fallen of Isola was created by the Milanese artist Carlo Ramous in 1972 as a memorial for those who died in the fights against nazi-fascist regimes. The artwork was previously located in via Filippo Sassetti, but in 2009, it was moved to piazzale Segrino, upon a request submitted by citizens.

The structure is composed of two parts: a steel sculptural group and a base in concrete. The latter displays on a caved-in band the names of the partisans, and above, an inscription dedicated to the fallen: «Ai patrioti del vecchio quartiere dell’Isola caduti nella lotta di liberazione contro il fascismo 1943-1945» (i.e., «To the patriots of the old neighborhood of Isola fallen in the liberation fight against fascism 1943-1945»).

In the artist’s words, the monument represented «the violence, the memory, the freedom of flags to affirm faith in human dignity which cannot be stifled».

Ramous led the different production phases at the Arte Mare construction site in Fiumaretta, Liguria.
