The exhibition, in collaboration with the Antonio Raimondi Museum (MAR) in Lima, illustrates some aspects of the life and the explorations of the celebrated Milanese naturalist Antonio Raimondi (1824-1890). Beginning with his training in Italy, the exhibition traces the adventures of this explorer: life in Milan in the mid-nineteenth century amidst scientific fervor and Risorgimento passions, the voyage to Perù, and the exploration of this land through fieldwork. The exhibit presents his work from the creation of a Peruvian cartography, the discovery of plants, animals, and traces of the pre-Hispanic past in the Andes region, to the fortune/success of his scientific work on the international level, and finally the legacy left by this scientist which has been taken up by the researchers of the MUDEC who continue his work through two field missions in South America.
