Modigliani Art Experience
June 20th, 2018 – November 4th, 2018
A fascinating account based on images, music, evocations and suggestions that come together before visitors’ eyes to recreate the world of painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, plunging them into the Parisian art scene where he ruled supreme.
The exhibition produced by 24 ORE Cultura is promoted by Comune di Milano-Cultura with the scientific support of the conservators from the MUDEC and Museo del Novecento di Milano.
The exhibition, which is based on a concept developed by the Crossmedia Group and curated by Francesco Poli, adopts a multisensory approach to accompany visitors on their journey of discovery of Modigliani’s artistic style; the influence on his work of Primitivism, African, Egyptian and Cycladic sculpture, in particular; and the Bohemian life led by this Livornese emigré in Montmartre and Montparnasse in the early 1900s.
The multimedia approach and immersive feel of the MUDEC exhibition are enhanced by the two rooms bookending the visit.
The entrance room displays masterpieces of 20th-century African art from the MUDEC collection alongside three Modigliani portraits from the Museo del Novecento di Milano, giving visitors the opportunity to make a direct comparison between the works and allowing them to appreciate the influence that these models of Primitivism had upon the work of the genius from Livorno.
The exhibition ends with an Infinity room where visitors are confronted with some of the artist’s most iconic works appearing in a continuous play of refractions and splintered images along with a more classical account of the artist’s life and the historical, social, and cultural context in which he produced his work.
