After the MART in Rovereto, the photographic exhibition Trentino Unexpected, produced by Trentino Marketing in collaboration with 24 ORE Cultura, arrives at the MUDEC – Museo delle Culture finding a new interpretive key: the relationship between landscape, community and visual representation now engages with the city’s urban and multicultural context, expanding the dialogue between photography and territory.
Curated by Denis Curti, the exhibition brings together more than eighty large and extra-large photographic oeuvres by artists Simone Bramante, Gabriele Micalizzi, Roselena Ramistella, Massimo Sestini and Newsha Tavakolian, moving from artistic language to reportage, and from documentary photography to photojournalism. From forests to castles, from glaciers to vineyards, from the faces of local communities to the traces of productive activities, the exhibition creates a mosaic of identities and landscapes that conveys the complexity and authenticity of a land rich in history, tradition and innovation.
The exhibition in structured in five thematic sections, each one reflecting a different way of approaching Trentino and its identity. Confini (Borders) gathers images that explore frontier territories, places of passage and transformation where geography and human experience intersect. Verticalità (Verticality) is dedicated to the sublime dimension of the mountains, understood not only as imposing natural elements but also as metaphors of tension, effort and pride. Autenticità (Authenticity) focuses on gestures, rituals and everyday choices that reveal the depth of relationships and the desire to live in harmony with the land. Cura (Care) offers a journey into the ethics of attention and responsibility: images that show how the quality of collective life stems from individual actions, small yet meaningful. Finally, Impronta (Imprint) brings together photographs that bear witness to what is passed on – cultural, material and immaterial heritage – and what helps define the identity of a community.
Enriched by textual materials and behind-the-scenes videos documenting the work carried out on-site, the exhibition invites visitors to discover a Trentino far removed from stereotypes. Beyond the eponymous volume published by Gribaudo, it represents a project of cultural and territorial enhancement which and becomes a polyphonic narrative that goes beyond the more conventional iconographic imagination, offering instead the complexity of a territory rich in identities, stories and contrasts.
