‘MUDEC chiama San Siro’ [MUDEC calls San Siro] is a participatory public art project linked to the exhibition ‘Travelogue. Stories of Journeys, Migration and Diaspora’ curated by Area Museo delle Culture, Progetti Interculturali e Arte nello Spazio Pubblico.
The project, thanks to the involvement of some young people who live in the San Siro area, aims to take the exhibition out of the museum’s boundaries by creating a dialogue with a deeply multicultural and multiethnic reality, such as the one that characterizes this neighborhood.
Starting with guided tours of the MUDEC permanent collection and workshops in the San Siro area, the boys and girls identified some objects related to the theme of travel and belonging to their own personal history. Then they found some links to the “traveling” artifacts in the museum’s collections.
The contents that have emerged during the preliminary stages of the project were reworked by the artists Elena Mistrello and Agus Rúcula in the design of the mural that painted on the via Paravia in December 2024.
The project included a collection of oral histories from San Siro youth or their families about their own travel objects and stories related to them. By clicking on the link on the right, you can listen to the corresponding audios.
‘MUDEC chiama San Siro’ – curated by the Office for Art in Public Spaces – is part of the public program of the exhibition ‘Travelogue. Stories of Journeys, Migration and Diaspora’. The project is realized in collaboration with Codici, with the participation of Fondazione Terzoluogo, of Telaio delle Arti and with the support of Aler and Municipio 7; the project is co-financed by Regione Lombardia.
