The earliest Australopithecines, the appearance of the genus Homo, the various migrations out of Africa, the coexistence of various human species, the unique characteristics that brought about the success of Homo sapiens, the conquest of the most remote corners of the earth, and the cultural diversity of humankind: a long journey in time and space told by means of finds, models and maps, as well as the latest extraordinary discoveries.

Why are we all African? Is it true that until 20,000 years ago we shared our planet with four other human species? What became of them? Why do human races exist only in our minds? To answer these and other questions we will retrace the great journey of humankind, comparing the results of various scientific disciplines (from Palaeoanthropology to genetics, from linguistics to history) which only by working together can explain the great complexity and the unique beauty of our history.

Our history had its origins in Africa, but the constant research of experts from a whole range of disciplines show that our species has always travelled in search of places suitable for its needs. Through the guided study of exclusive finds, young visitors will be able learn more about scientific methods as they discover the various stages of the unique journey of humankind.

There is only one race in our species: the human race. Yet the populations of the world are incredibly varied. Through a series of surprising hands-on activities, pupils will be able to discover that we are the result of a series of ancient, profound cultural exchanges which, right from prehistoric times, have given us a distinct “advantage”.

• To analyze the reality in the light of historical reconstructions, rejecting stereotypes and prejudices.
• To understand the importance of contamination in the evolution of humankind and in present-day society.
