THE BRIDGE OF GRAFFITIAnimated visit to the exhibition (60’)
First the tags, then the colour and the gesture. For Basquiat the walls of the city were splendid large canvases on which he could leave his mark. As a child he liked to visit museums with his mother, he drew on paper napkins at restaurants and dreamt of becoming a comic-strip writer. In the exhibition we will see how this undisciplined boy, stepping out of the box and creating a language of his own, built a coloured bridge beyond the boundaries that society imposed on him, by painting his thoughts, his fears, his passions and by becoming in a very short time a famous artist worldwide.
Cost: 70 euro per class + entrance ticket (free participation for 2 teachers), reservation required
MUDEC-LAB GRAFFITICreative workshop (60’)
Basquiat’s art has often been compared to children’s drawings, not only because of its stylistic characteristics (the stroke as the dominant element, the absence of perspective depth and shading off in the use of colours), but also because of its great originality and freedom of expression. Like Basquiat, children will search in the drawers of their experience the elements with which they can realize their own visual tale: their dreams, the objects of daily use, their fears, their heroes, will give life to a coloured and multi-matter collective work.

From the walls of the city to his paintings displayed in the most prestigious galleries in the world, in his very short and dazzling career Jean-Michel Basquiat gave life to a powerful, eclectic and original artistic language, rich in references to classical and primitive art but at the same time extremely new. By visiting the exhibition, we will follow in the wake of this comet-boy, propelled at a dizzy speed towards a success that he craved for but that he, on the other hand, could not sustain.
Cost: 70 euro per class + entrance ticket (free participation for 2 teachers), + headset rental reservation required
