Jean Michel BasquiatGuided visit to the exhibition (60’)
Like every “cursed” artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who died in 1988 when he was only 27 years old, managed within very few years to build a legend around his figure and his art. In a direct and seemingly childish way Basquiat succeeded in bringing to the attention of the general public essential themes on human identity and on the painful and open issue of race. He has been a fundamental figure in contemporary American history because, unique in those times, he was capable of interlacing the cursed urban Energy of New York with its African roots marked by slavery and by the Diaspora.
